6 Regenerative Frameworks to Solve the Climate Crisis

Regeneration is a nonprofit organization committed to creating a more sustainable future by helping individuals, communities, and businesses transition towards regenerative practices.

Amongst a myriad of hopeful solutions, Regeneration’s work focuses on regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, and regenerative economics, all of which are crucial to transitioning to a just, sustainable world and mitigating the impacts of climate change for future generations.

At the forefront of this movement is Paul Hawken, a renowned environmentalist and author of the groundbreaking book, "Drawdown." Hawken's philosophy is simple yet profound: we must not only reduce our negative impact on the environment, but actively work towards restoring it. Regenerative practices go beyond sustainable practices by actively working to improve the health and vitality of the planet, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

Regeneration highlights six basic frameworks for action to solve the climate crisis:

  • Equity: Equity comes first because it intersects with everything. It focuses on promoting social equity and justice in all aspects of regenerative work, ensuring that all communities have access to basic needs.

  • Reduce: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste by promoting energy-efficient technologies and reducing the use of single-use products.

  • Protect: Protect natural ecosystems, such as forests and wetlands, and the biodiversity they support through conservation efforts, sustainable land use practices, and habitat restoration.

  • Sequester: Remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in natural and artificial sinks, such as forests and soil which can be achieved via regenerative agriculture practices, reforestation, and the use of carbon capture technologies.

  • Influence: Through advocacy and education campaigns, as well as partnerships with policymakers and businesses, promote regenerative practices and policies at the local, regional, and national levels.

  • Support: Support regenerative initiatives through investment in sustainable businesses and nonprofit organizations, as well as consumer support for sustainable products and services.

As we continue to face the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, it is more important than ever to support organizations like Regeneration that are actively working towards a more equitable and regenerative future.
