Firecrown's 1% for the Planet: Supporting Indigenous Climate Action and Green Buildings
Firecrown is proud to announce our 1% for the Planet commitment, in which we will donate 1% of our annual revenue to two non-profits working at the forefront of intersectional climate action: the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) and VIBE (Verdani Institute for the Built Environment).
Indigenous Environmental Network
The Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) is a Native-led organization working to protect Indigenous lands, water, and resources from environmental destruction and address environmental and economic justice issues. IEN's work is essential to combating the climate crisis, as Indigenous peoples are the stewards of vast amounts of biodiverse lands and play a vital role in protecting the planet.
IEN works on a wide range of issues, including:
Building the capacity of Indigenous communities and tribal governments to develop mechanisms to protect sacred sites, land, water, air, natural resources, and health
Opposing the construction of fossil fuel infrastructure
Connecting communities to traditional ecological knowledge
Building alliances among Indigenous communities, people-of-color/ethnic organizations, faith-based and women groups, youth, labor, environmental organizations, and others
Reconceptualizing an economic and governmental path forward towards a just and sustainable future
IEN's work ensures that Indigenous peoples have a voice in the fight against the climate crisis and that their traditional knowledge and wisdom are incorporated into solutions, and Firecrown is proud to support their mission.
VIBE (Verdani Institute for the Built Environment)
VIBE (Verdani Institute for the Built Environment) is a non-profit organization working to position the global building sector as a positive force for sustainable development through green building and resilience practices, education, and collaboration.
VIBE works on a wide range of issues, including:
Creating Sustainable Real Estate Guidance Reports and Online Sustainable Real Estate Courses
Conducting climate change risk application and assessment for individual buildings and portfolios
Creating innovative tools and platforms to facilitate global collaboration on key sustainability topics, projects, and issues
Advocating for green building education and the rapid scaling and expansion of green building practices
Supporting community-led development initiatives
Ensuring that all communities have access to healthy and sustainable places to live, work, and play
